The writing is on the wall. Aside from the worn-out and moth-eaten issues like corruption, poverty, unemployment education, and health ... there is one political issue in this election cycle that comes to the centerstage that begs not to be ignored or swept under the rug ... and that's the West Philippine Sea.
In the history of Philippine elections ... this will be the first time some of us will resort to ISSUE VOTING. Before voting is always personality-based, whoever is the most popular wins? That explains why we have a lot of actors who by virtue of their fame and popularity managed to be elected ... kahit wala siyang alam sa pinasok niyang gulo.
They make the Senate and the House a place for OJT (on-the-job training) that makes career senators and congressmen shake their heads.
I mentioned issue-voting earlier ... kung naniwala ka talaga na ang West Philippine Sea ay atin ... and that we have to defend our territory to the last drop of our blood (pahiram Cong Marcoleta) then voters should settle for the candidates whose beliefs and stances are closest to his own.
Yong mga kandidato natin ngayon sa Senado are very transparent. Nakikita mo pati likaw ng bituka. Usually, the candidates who are pro-China are the same candidates who have never reacted to the dangerous maneuvers being done by Chinese vessels and planes para ma-intimidate ang ating mga sundalo.
They are the candidates who are mum about the Chinese navy confiscating the fish caught by our fishermen. Their apathy was obvious because they remained calm when Philippine vessels were water-cannoned ... when Pinoy coast guards' fingers were dismembered ... and when territorial disputes got worse they never said anything negative when China started erecting buildings and airports... and they were tight-lipped when their mammoth ships deliberately rammed and collided with our vessels.
The situation was surreal. I was expecting a squadron of senators and congressmen elbowing each other to speak in the pulpit. It was eerie, dahil TAHIMIK sila. Silence means... YES?
Sila yon mga candidates who greet China "kung hei fat choi" on New Year's Eve and speak Mandarin (their way to butter up their tsekwa friends. What they do is almost resemblant to sucking up ... or licking their boots.
It dawned on me that these pro-Chinese Filipinos are the very same candidates who favored POGO ... they are anti-impeachment ... they loathed ABS CBN... and they would rather have the son of God Quiboloy released.
At kung iboto mo pa rin sila ... you are part of the problem. You are enabling them to continue the evil in their agenda ... kahit alam mong mali ito.
Basta tandaan natin before the May election ... the West Philippine Sea is a campaign issue every Filipinos should care about.
