A Dilis Domination

 I

In the magnificent annals of corporate finance, we have witnessed leveraged buyouts, hostile takeovers, and sovereign wealth fund investments. But leave it to an impeachment court in the Philippines to uncover a brand-new economic phenomenon: The Anchovy Hegemony.

During the trial, Senator-judge Joel Villanueva found himself staring at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings of Pikimong-Pikimong Philippines Corp.—a corporate giant boasting a staggering paid-up capital of ₱59,836 and total assets hovering around a heroic ₱84,700.

The purpose of this financial juggernaut? To purchase shares in Cale88 Food Corp., a company that casually pulled in ₱150 million in annual revenues. Is this a joke?

[ THE BUYER: PIKIMONG-PIKIMONG CORP. ]

• Paid-up Capital: ₱59,836.

[ THE TARGET: CALE88 FOOD CORP. ]

• 2024 Reported Revenue: ₱150,000,000 Million.

[ THE BUYER: PIKIMONG-PIKIMONG CORP. ]

• Total Assets: ₱84,700 (Approx. 2 iPhones).

[ THE TARGET: CALE88 FOOD CORP. ]

• Rank-and-File Employees: 0.

[ THE BUYER: PIKIMONG-PIKIMONG CORP. ]

• Equivalent Enterprise: Aling Nena's Sari-Sari Store.

[ THE TARGET: CALE88 FOOD CORP. ]

• Equivalent Enterprise: SM Megamall.

Pondering this financial wizardry, Senator-judge Villanueva put the transaction into everyday Filipino terms:

"So parang sinasabi n'yo po, 'yung sari-sari store, binili 'yung isang department store?"

Forensic financial analyst Atty. Alex Cabrera, refusing to be outdone in culinary economics, escalated the metaphor to marine biology:

"'Yung dilis po kinain 'yung pating, gano'n po?"

[ THE CORPORATE AQUATIC FOOD CHAIN ]

[ SHARK / DEPARTMENT STORE ]
• Revenue: ₱150 Million
• Inventory: 0 Bananas, 0 Sugar, 0 Packaging
• Staff: 0 Employees

[ DILIS / SARI-SARI STORE ]
• Total Capital: ₱59,836
• Assets: 3 cases of soft drinks and a jar of bubblegum.
Imagine walking up to Aling Nena’s sari-sari store window, handing her three ₱20 coins and a half-eaten stick of Kwek-Kwek, and having her hand you the land title to an entire shopping mall chain in return.

That is not just a free market at work; that is an economic miracle that defies the Laws of Thermodynamics.

What makes the Dilis-eats-Shark narrative even more magical is the operational structure of Cale88.

According to corporate records, Cale88 generated ₱150 million in 2024 while reporting zero rank-and-file employees, zero raw material inventories (no bananas, no sugar, no packaging), and zero records of subcontracting or outsourcing.

THE ZERO-INPUT MANUFACTURING FORMULA

INPUTS:
• Employees: 0
• Raw Bananas: 0
• Sugar & Bags: 0

OUTPUT:
• Export Revenue: ₱150,000,000

CONCLUSION:
• The banana chips were manufactured by telepathy.

When a company produces ₱150 million worth of exported banana chips out of thin air without a single employee peeling a single banana, a ₱59,000 holding firm should buy it out.

It’s not corporate accounting—it’s high-fantasy worldbuilding.

If the defense manages to convince the court that a ₱59,000 company naturally swallowed a ₱150 million enterprise, business schools across the Philippines will have to rewrite their MBA textbooks:

THE PIKIMONG INVESTMENT LESSONS
Rule 1: Never let your actual bank balance restrict your ambitions.
Rule 2: If a shark swims past your sari-sari store, open your mouth wide.
Rule 3: If auditors ask how a dilis ate a shark, explain that the shark
volunteered to be digested for tax purposes.

At the end of the day, when a sari-sari store buys a department store, and a microscopic dilis consumes a Great White Shark, the public doesn't need a PhD in forensic auditing to figure out what happened.

They just need to look at the aquarium, point to the bulging dilis floating at the top of the tank, and ask: "Where did you get the money to buy that shark?"

Was I Playing With A Bot or Einstein?

Being a newcomer to the digital nooks of Scrabble Go, I naively thought I was stepping into a cozy, intellectual parlor game.

I was already a seasoned veteran of physical board games, having played since childhood with my friends and siblings.

The invitation was always there, and for once, I wanted to experience playing with total strangers around the world. Two months in, I was hopelessly hooked. I established quite a record, and the app officially assessed that I belonged in the Top 5 Percent.

Naturally, once you hit the elite 5%, unknown guests start knocking at your Facebook front door to challenge you. At first, I exercised a strict VIP door policy. I only selected normal-looking guests.

I hate to admit it, but I actively refused to play with scary-looking caricatures out of pure fear of the unknown. Was I expecting something bad to happen?

Well, one day, a long list of digital aliens was lined up at my door again. And sitting right there was this guy in a pitch-black robe, patiently waiting for his turn to destroy me. I played with everyone before him, and now he was a hair's breadth away from my threshold.

My survival instinct screamed NO, but my moral conscience whispered, "What if he’s actually a good guy? It’s unfair to discriminate against a man in a mysterious robe!"

So, I accepted. And boy, did I regret it. Dapat talaga naniwala ako sa gut feel ko!

Imagine playing a leisurely word game against an actual mythological figure or a supernatural entity. His scaring schemes were 100% effective.

The moment he started, I could sense he was in a demonic hurry. By the time I managed to clear the endless barrage of pop-up ads pestering my screen, he was already waiting for me with his next word. Nag-iisip ba talaga siya, o baka robot ito?!

With my regular, normal human opponents, a single game takes about two days. We take our sweet, civilized time, sipping coffee, shuffling tiles, and enjoying the intellectual process of picking the best entry.

But this guy? There was zero time to think. I could practically hear impatient, heavy breathing from the other side of the cloud. Before the smoke from my cleared ads even settled, he dropped another tongue-twister on the board. Nag-iisip pa ba siya?! Napakabilis mag-form ng words, nakalatag na agad, at naghihintay na lang ng susunod kong tira!

He was like a walking encyclopedia running on high-voltage electricity, effortlessly stringing words together like he was doing a daily newspaper crossword puzzle na mina-manimani lang.

To make matters stranger, the supernatural phenomena didn't stop there. He started pumping out consecutive games in a jiffy! My nervous system was fried, my heart was racing, and the adrenaline rush left me feeling limp, exhausted, and stuck in an episode of The Twilight Zone.

At that point, I decided to execute an emergency evacuation strategy. How? By sabotaging my own pride just to finish the nightmare!

I deliberately threw down rapid-fire two-letter words—ex, we, vet, fa, fe, act—just to catch up with his manic speed without burning my remaining brain cells.

Ugh, ganoon na ba ako kabobo?! I didn't care if I lost anymore! Di bale nang matalo, basta makalabas lang ako nang buhay sa larong ito!

The Verdict: Bot, Einstein, or Cheater?

I will answer this burning question: Did I play against a bot, a computer, or an Einstein?

 THE SCRABBLE GO OPPONENT DIAGNOSTIC

A. [ THE AI BOT / DICTIONARY SOLVER ]

 • Instant, zero-second response times.

• Plays obscure 7-letter words instantly.

[ THE HUMAN SCRABBLE EINSTEIN ]

 • Takes 2 minutes to calculate optimal leaf.

• Plays defensively and opens double-word tiles.

[ THE AI BOT / DICTIONARY SOLVER ]

. • Never closes the app; operates 24/7.

• Ignores chat; zeroes in on raw board points.

[ THE HUMAN SCRABBLE EINSTEIN ]

 • Has a normal profile picture (not a Grim Reaper).

 • Pauses to drink water or look at ads.

In Scrabble Go, I was almost certainly I was playing against an AI Bot or a player using an automated Word Finder solver app.

Bots do not look at ads, do not sip coffee, and do not waste time shuffling tiles—they scan the board in milliseconds, match your entries instantly, and lay down dictionary-accepted anagrams before your screen even finishes loading.

How to Spot Bots vs. Real Players

  1. Instantaneous Moves: If a player drops an 8-letter obscure word within 3 seconds of your turn—every single time—it's a bot or someone pasting solutions from an external solver app.

  2. Absurd Dictionary Obscurities: Humans usually play words they vaguely recognize. Bots routinely play dictionary anomalies like QI, XU, CETE, or XYST without batting an eye.

  3. Blank or Caricature Profiles: Accounts with dark robes, default avatars, or bizarre names that instantly invite you after a high-ranking streak are almost always automated system invitations generated by the app to keep high-tier players (like your Top 5% self!) engaged.

The Final Crowing and Crowning Moment

Despite his intimidation tactics, his lightning-fast wizardry, and the distinct feeling that I was playing against an algorithm in a hooded cape, I still managed to drop TWO BINGO WORDS on his head: TERRAIN and FEELINGS (+50 points each!).

That right there is the ultimate victory. I dragged a digital demon into My world, threw down two legitimate Bingos, survived the adrenaline overload, and forced him to retreat into the shadows. Pagkatapos ng laro, hindi ko na siya nakita—na nakipila sa FB address ko. Nahihiya siguro sa ginawa niya!

If he ever dares to send another invitation from the underworld, I will ignore it, I will keep my crown and leave him screaming into the void while I enjoy my 2-day-per-move, civilized games!
