Was Jay Sonza Correct?

Netizen's Comment:

Was Jay Sonza correct when he said that when using the phrase "one is in a better place" it meant that the person has died?

Response:

Well, according to Mela Franco Habijan, Directress at Gentle Angels School and an Ateneo de Manila alumna, Sonza should be ashamed of himself because Leni Robredo’s use of the phrase “You are in a good place now” while greeting Kim Chiu on her birthday because the VP was correct.

You may read Habijan’s original FB post here.

This is also echoed by another pro-Duterte and former rebel named Joy Saguino in his latest FB post. “[He is] in a good place…” means a person is well and optimistic. It refers to a person’s state of mind vs “[He is] in a better place…” which means a person has died. Look at the words, not the color.

Responding To Netizen's Comment

 Netizen's Comment:

In your response to a netizen regarding the controversy on the use of a phrase in a better place, you were obviously affected.

You can opt to stay firmly within the moral high ground by simply ignoring the bully at the onset; Otherwise, engaging the troll/bully freely in a verbal tussle could be counterproductive, and erode self-confidence that could be emotionally draining if not outright debilitating through the process. Your choice!

Come on Sir, no need to sound apologetic. With this lengthy discourse, it is evident whom you're trying to defend. Don't be shy. It's your right to choose (ours as well) and cast your vote of confidence in the total exercise of your individual right of suffrage. No one else can take that away from anyone as we are privileged to live in a robust democracy. No offense!

Response:

One plus one is always 2.

But in this situation, trolls who blindly jump to join the bandwagon of insinuating that Leni is some kind of a moron using this infamous phrase doesn't usually mean I am pro-Leni. How about reacting from the paradigm of Right and Wrong? I have not made up my mind on whom to vote I am leaning towards Isko or Lacson or Leni even though I know they don't have an iota chance of winning. But a pro-Isko or Lacson can also have a heart seeing somebody bleed and react especially when the one commenting is not even believable with his pronouncements.

A case in point was this out-of-school-of-school-youth in our neighborhood who has not even finished high school at 25 and incessantly repeated the sarcasm & was quick to say "boba".  Imagine a commenter saying a moronic diatribe to the sitting VP who is a lawyer. Gosh, I was almost floored when I heard that. How can one be so entitled to call anybody names?  How can he stomach saying that when a lot of things can be said of him and his scholastic journey. Walk the talk ... you high school drop-out!

I always say a disclaimer in my intro that I am not a true-blue Leni defender yet ... not yet anyway. And I saw that coming ... a pesky fly disturbing my peace of mind.  In social media, anybody can always assume and put words into your mouth and infer the worst in you. I am not apologetic I am pro-Isko or Lacson or Leni and I am proud I am leaning in their direction.

It is just a case of what's right and wrong.  Commenting is okay for as long as you stand with the truth and we go with what is right.  Remember a troll/bully and how he spew invectives left and right?  Almost 90 percent of us react negatively to the way and the manner he handles his arguments.  It is the same situation Leni was in. The vultures are eating her alive.

Remember the story of the Good Samaritan? Shall we transfer to the other side of the road and leave the bruised Leni alone and pretend everything is okay and say nothing about it?

John Arcilla's Speech Under The Microscope

Netizen's Comment:  How did you find John Arcilla's thought-provoking and compelling speech at Leni Robredo's birth celebration cum rally?

Response: I think that speech is second to none and not being hyperbolic ... it might be the most moving and impassioned speech this whole election season.

"Korap o tapat? Kurakot o lingkod? Umiiwas o humaharap? Sumusugod o umaatras? Masipag o tamad? Trapo o tropa? Bayan, pumili ka!" he said.

After that infamous line, I know where it is leading. General Luna's voice ear-splitting before a sellout throng of 412,000 in Pasay City, Arcilla called on and challenge the crowd to choose between shady and nefarious governance to honest leadership, and between one who is willing to fight or one who is in the flight mood, and one who faces calamities and catastrophe head-on or one who cowers with his sins of omission and commission and is missing in action.

The meat of the speech reaches its apex when Arcilla reiterated that people expressing grief or outrage is not a hallmark sign of rebellion.  Whoever has this line of thinking is the most vindictive, spiteful, and retaliatory.  "Ang eleksyon ay tungkol sa ating bayan at hindi tungkol sa ating sarili," he said.

He praised Bongbong for protecting the legacy of  FEM, but that doesn't make you qualify to be president, not even physical appearance can be a yardstick or popularity can do the trick.

He ended his speech by saying that in the May 9 election ... the people have this awesome task and the power to choose or negate leaders whoever he or she is.

To summarize it all, the Arcilla speech was a game-changer. It was the speech to end all speech.  It is the speech everybody is waiting for - tagos sa puso ... nay, tagos to the bulalo.  I was having goosebumps. This is the speech na gigising talaga sa lahat ng Filipino, kahit bakal man ang puso mo...

And YES, ang pagpupuna sa gobyerno ay hindi pagrebelde sa bayan.
