Minor Things That Make You Smile

Humor can be dissected, as a frog can. True to form, philosophers, scientists, and certain left-brained comedians have been scrutinizing humor’s innards or viscera for a while seeking a serious understanding of what makes things funny.

According to one scholarly definition, people who have been working on a quantum theory of humor, something is humorous if people cognitively appraise it as funny, if it creates a positive emotion of amusement or if it makes somebody smile or makes him burst into laughter.

There are a lot of situations in life that we found it strange. As bizarre or offbeat they may be, or how trivial, irrelevant and minor it sounds to others if it tickles someone pink, there are still others in this whole wide world who appreciate it to the same degree as his. Who cares about others whose left-leaning attitude and their threshold of tolerance to small things and humor are askew and lopsided?

Here are examples of things that may sound superficial and paltry to some ... but makes you wonder ... they have managed to make you smile.

Did you ever wonder how solar energy works? Before we embark on this new adventure, the truth should be said that we usually pay P6000 each in these 3 houses for our electricity. And because the amount looked too much as compared to other households, we decided to make drastic ways to improve our energy consumption.

When the home solar system became a fad I tried to place one in John Michael's house to see how it works.  When his bill came after using solar, he said, " It didn't even make a dent in my bill. It is more or less the same amount and the same usage. After the second, third, and fourth months he said. "I don't think it is helping in any way the way the four-month record shows. The amount instead of decreasing went even higher than we expected.

"OK since you feel it is useless to you, I will have the solar panels connected to my house and we will see what happens with my bill.  After a month my P6000 bill plunged to a record low of P1300.

What happened? With my bill, I am convinced more than ever that solar actually helped.  And our energy-saving approach may have helped too.

What happens to JM's experience with the solar, needs a thorough investigation.  Or perhaps he knows something ... and is doing something that we don't.
