Summer is here ... and what do you see? Crystal blue skies, warm winds, powdery sands, and the scorching heat reaching a record high. Dedicated summer junkies flock to the beach ... cavorting and frolicking under the mighty sun and for what .... to get that much needed tan!

Beach resorts make a merry tingling of dough-ray-me ... the white sands are lined up with naked bodies, and the vibrant nightlife are filled with pregnant laughters amid ear-splitting music and that pesky alcohol ... everybody looked like they are programmed to have a good time.

In the sea, people enjoyed water sports and there's a plethora of activities to choose from: cliff diving, snorkeling, kayaking, wind surfing, banana boat riding, scuba diving, paddle boarding, jet-skiing, parasailing, island hopping and mermaid swimming.

If you want an idle sport you can try body shopping or just sit beside the baywalk and while your time watching the people pass by. This sport is free and you will be treated to a myriad specimen of body contours you can ever imagine. And if you are a good observer chances are you will arrive to this conclusion: Every body tried to outdo each other wearing the trendest swimwears in town irregardless of size, color and body curves.

And while we are at it, summer is also the time for Bikini Summits- a contest for men and women elbowing each other mano a mano so they will come out the penultimate ... the one with the Best Body. Seeing one is just like watching the latest episode of Flesh Avenue.

If you are feeling a little worn out by the heat and the humidity ... you can have the local masseurs gave you a massage al fresco (my gosh Pinoy beaches looked like a one-resort kneading parlor) Or you can look for the nearest dessert and drinks bar and order your favorite Pinoy coolers. The ultimate Pinoy treat is halohalo and the other one is the tried and tested mais con yelo.

Your annual beach visit ... for sure will not be complete without experiencing the nightlife in the beach. Oh it is so much fun. You can join a bar hopping tour where you enjoy discounts on drinks, free entrances to bars (in resort lingo they termed it as "moving party on the go") This activity will also give you the chance meeting new friends and acquaintances you''ll never know can blossom into a lasting relationships.

Lastly ... you are already in the beach so why not a gastronomic treat! You can always feast on crustaceans ... and we mean king crabs, shrimps, fish, squids and lobsters. And in Pinoy beach there's an abundance of this so grab yourself the opportunity of the lifetime.

To Sub or to Dub That Is The Question

 

To sub or to dub that is the question. This is the first time I saw a Thai serye, thanks to the latest internet controversy: To Sub or To Dub.

And in fairness to both camps, I watch the Tagalized version of Still 2gether (dubbed) and then the original version (subbed). Gosh I came out a better viewer because I came out with better perspective about the options and I was able to contrast the two.

To understand them better, in subtitling the words are typed over a film in English language to translate what is being said by the actors. In dubbing the original spoken language of a film or television series was change to Tagalog.

People have been in dispute for a while which mechanism is a superior choice. Each has their advantages and disadvantages and, ultimately it is a matter of personal preference.

In subtitles as in Still 2gether you can listen to the voices of the original actors. Let’s face it, no one, and I mean NO ONE could EVER replace Sarawat or Tine's voice. That including accents & voice inflections plus mannerisms.

Second advantage It gives you the opportunity to increase your Thai vocabulary other than Sawasdee Krab. In dubbing, you can focus on the story as you watch a film in your native language. in subtitling, you squint your eyes reading the simplication of what is being said vis a vis savoring the first kiss of Sarawat and Tine. Simply said you can focus on the action.

Talking about disadvantages, in subtitles you can be sidetracked from the film action when you read the translation below and you will miss some of the feeling conveyed in the dialogue when you read the written form. If you are Thai who knows English you may be tempted to check the translation and see how good (or bad) it is.

In dubbing, editors try to match & organize what is being said to synchronize the mouth movements of the actors. Although not their fault, at times they're forced to modify the translation of the word in Pilipino for a better fit. This is frustrating especially when synchronizing fails. It is extremely disturbing to witness technical ambiguities: actors’ yelling and angry but not blending with the sounds and emotions required.

So which one is the better option. dubbing or subtitling? I patiently watch both and to my surprise the dubbing of Still 2gether is above par. You have to watch it to believe it. Watching subtitled Still 2gether was quite a strain for my eyes. Sad to say I miss to savor the emotions that goes with the dialogue, because I was busy reading the typed translation below.

To Pinoy fans who wants subtitling, I don't blame you if you want this option especially if you are used to this method. But in times of pandemic, we don't need to be choosy and act prima-donnaish. Let's be contented with what is being served on the table.

Beggars should not choose nor demand,For sheer lack of avenues for our entertainment, let us appreciate what is being offered & let's not look for things that aren't there, or meddle with the agreement of ABS & GMMTV. Pseudo-science and Misinformation in the Use of Chlorine Dioxide for Covid

COVID 19 has wreck havoc around the world and North and South America topped the highest mortality rate. It brought fear in the hearts of the people and having the semblance of gloom and doom, and the preponderance of fake news, people resorted to alternative remedies, leading to Chlorine Dioxide being promoted as a backup treatment for Covid 19. despite the lack of substantiation to give credence to its efficacy. One country that uses Chlorine Dioxide and considers it as deus ex machina to all our Covid miseries is Peru.

Chlorine Dioxide is a highly reactive gas marketed even in Lazada.  It is available in liquid form and because of its oxidizing potential, it is often used as a disinfectant.  And with Covid, it can now be used for inhalation and it is also available in oral and parenteral routes.

But sorry to burst your bubble, but nobody has made a study on its efficacy, and it doesn't have the imprimatur seal for distribution or treatment against Covid.  Not even in Peru. While there is no proof for its potency, the danger of its toxicity has already been documented and validated.

Breathing Chlorine Dioxide can irritate the lungs causing coughing and shortness of breath. Higher exposures can cause a build-up of fluid in the lungs (pulmonary edema), a medical emergency, with severe shortness of breath.

Chlorine dioxide has been historically used as a disinfecting agent for drinking water supplies and surfaces. Widespread use as an alternative option for the prevention and treatment of COVID-19 has emerged due to a lack of specific treatment. We present the case of a 55-year-old male who developed acute kidney injury and disseminated intravascular coagulation after chlorine dioxide prophylactic ingestion, with regression after therapy with hemodialysis.

Therefore, it is suggested to continue educating the population to avoid the consumption of this type of substance and the implementation of policies to regulate the information propagated by the media, to mitigate false news and promote evidence-based recommendations.
