An occasional slip of the tongue ... or a slip of the pen is normal and is quickly forgiven by the person listening or reading... that is ... if they even notice it. Even when they do, most people most of the time will recognize a slip of the tongue or pen for what it is and realize that what you meant to say or write ... is not what you did say or write.
My favorite vlogger is trending again because of her occasional slips that are just too awkward for comfort. She was too elated that former Vice President Atty. Leni Robredo the former nemesis of BBM is too generous with her praises regarding the current administration's handling of the West Philippines Sea.
This time she fanned the embers of controversy when she used UNITEMENT instead of UNITY or UNITED. She said: "Kritiko ako ni VP Leni noon ... hindi ko talaga inaasahan na yong mga dating Kakampinks noon ay may hidwaan tayo ... sa ngayon ay nagkaroon tayo ng UNITEMENT." Something to that effect.
Oxford English Dictionary says UNITEMENT is an obsolete word and is not used at present. Proof of that is that if you are going to type unitement ... Grammarly corrects you right away that you are using the wrong word.
The earliest known use of the noun "unitement" is in the mid-1600s.
Oxford English Dictionary's earliest evidence for unitement is from before 1637 ... (almost 4 decades back) in the writing of Nicholas Ferrar, a religious writer, and administrator.
So did our vlogger make some slips of the tongue? Or was it a case of malapropism - cases where an incorrect word is used in a sentence that sounds like the correct word but means something completely different?
Or was it spoonerism? - (a situation where a speaker accidentally mixes up the initial sounds or letters of two words in a phrase).
Or our vlogger is just in a state of decline where she fumbles words because of her eagerness to say something ... and becomes oblivious to her use of the language ... grammar ... syntax ... and semantics.
We can't help it ... but there are times when we are groping for words ... we start rambling and by the time we know it ... we are already saying things that are wrong in the first place.
Sometimes we also plan and deliberately say the wrong things ... to have a good laugh or get people's attention.
Malapropisms come from the French word mala propio which means inappropriate ... or not fitting. So malapropisms are WRONG words used in place of the RIGHT ones. resulting in nonsensical, sometimes humorous utterances.
No matter what motives we have when using malapropisms... whether intentional or unintentional ... deliberately or accidental ... it comes out sounding funny ... and humorous.
Looking at the image above how many malapropisms did you see? Let us examine them. Did it make you giggle ... and did it have a comedic intent?

4. Casting DISPERSIONS - casting ASPERSIONS

Godfrey Nikolai Murillo, Kenneth Vincent Cabungcal, Lloyd Figueras and RJ De Vera
Misters of Filipinas is having a Golden Harvest of Crowns this 2024. When it rains ... it pours ... and there is no stopping them. Their success is nothing to sneer about because they have combed all five-star and Grade A candidates from Aparri to Jolo, which is one Herculean task in my estimate. Kudos to PEPPS and its indefatigable president Manhunt Philippines himself Carlos Morris Galang.
I have seen Mister Fitness Supermodel World 2024 myself ... lest somebody misconstrue me as not a "good sport" I am not a sore loser either. It is just that I always call "a spade a spade" when I see some incongruity and disparity. When you thought the crown was already in the bag for Godfrey, something happens at the last minute that shakes up and changes the result's dynamics.
I can see the frustration on Godfrey Murillo's face when the results were announced. He showed - a questioning look ... as if he was asking himself... did I hear it right? He has ... furrowed eyebrows ... a sad and polite smile ... trying to be gracious when he could have shown disgust or protest. It was all written in his face ... but Godfrey like a true gentleman maintained his composure and accepted his fate with equanimity.
I think what changed what could be a win for Murillo ... is the fact that when it is a Miss and Mister pageant (having two contests in one event like Century Tuna ... or Mr. and Miss Chinatown) - some organizations can't stomach the idea of giving both titles to the same country or province. Imagine giving both the Mister and Miss Fitness Supermodel 2024 to the Philippines would be carnage ... and slaughter. The fans and supporters of other countries will not leave this issue sitting down ... they will think of this as highly improbable ... an overkill. Some will even think ... favoritism, one-sidedness ... or preferential treatment.
Godfrey was just a victim of circumstances. The Philippines can't just have the best of both worlds ... and remain unscathed without people talking or nitpicking about it.
The interview portion was the deciding factor. Murillo was grace under pressure ... and he was in the driver's seat. Japan and Vietnam failed miserably ... and Dominican Republic delivered his answers blandly ... lacking conviction. Murillo's last challenger was Uzbekistan - initially, he used an interpreter ... and while he was groping for the right words to say ... I was already celebrating ... Murillo has the title on his bag already.
What Uzbekistan did was his last-minute ditch (last effort and attempt) to change the contest in his favor. Instead of using the interpreter, he grabbed the mike and in broken English .... said what was on his mind, and luckily for him the thoughts expressed were reciprocally interrelated and connected ... resembling or forming a network ... relevant and coherent. That changed the dynamics of the contest.
If it is not possible to give the Philippines both titles ... if someone asked my opinion ... I could have decided to give Godfrey the title Mr. Fitness Supermodel ... instead of giving it to Kirsten Dawn Delirio who stammered and stuttered in her interview and making her the first runner-up. That is just my opinion! No offense meant to Kirsten because she really looked like a Barbie doll that night.
Can you imagine having Godfrey Nikolai Murillo, RJ de Vera, and Lloyd Figueras create a formidable triumvirate of winners in the Misters of Filipinas stable? The situation is something for Ripleys Believe It Or Not!
Meanwhile, everybody is excited to see how the fourth king Kenneth Vincent Cabungcal will fare in Man Of The World 2024 in July. Will he continue the winning streak set by the three?
