Just Asking

Filipino KPop and PPop boy group is going global. and there is no stopping them, It seems like it was only yesterday when we see them audition for Dream Makers at ABS CBN ... after some training in Korea, they are invited to KAMP FEST CDMX 2023 in Mexico on August 19.

However, there is a snag ... and a setback. The Damocles sword fell in our midst when Mexican immigration inform the group that due to stringent Mexican government minor labor policy ... Jeromy Millendez and Marcus Cabais will not be allowed to perform due to age limitations.

Here are the facts. Under Mexican law, children under 16 are not allowed to work more than six hours per day. Permission must be gained from parents or guardians and unless there are exceptional circumstances, mandatory education must not be affected. Despite this law, almost 97 percent of children work more than 35 hours per week, which is well above the legal six hours per day. Children often drop out of school to help provide financially for their families.

Is this just making a mountain out of a molehill? If Mexicans are breaking the law, why apply these laws to visiting entertainers? Besides performing in the show for only 6 minutes is negligible ... while they allow six hours per day to local minors. I am just asking though ... not meddling in the state's affairs.

Will they allow Jeromy and Marcus to travel with the group and just sit down with them and give them the much-needed support? Are minors traveling for vacation in Mexico not allowed as well?

Let us give moral support to the rest of the members - Vinci, Reyster, Winston, Kyler, and Kim.

Lost In Translation

Idiom Of The Day

Let's start using idioms or idiomatic expressions when we write. When idioms are used, it adds color and texture to language by creating images that convey meanings beyond those of the individual words that make them up. An idiom can be very colorful and make a 'picture' in our minds. It also shows the writer's familiarity with English. When you want to make your writing sound more conversational, including idioms can give your writing a more relaxed tone.

Idioms allow us to say a lot with few words. Idioms amplify your messages in a way that draws your readers in and helps awaken their senses. It adds dynamism and character to otherwise stale writing. They make your writing less monotonous and your readers will think that you are smart and knowledgeable. All the while ... you only clothe your writing with elaborate idioms to create an impact... saying too much with less.

To perfect your English, you really need to become confident in using idioms and knowing the difference between breaking a leg and pulling someone's leg. So the idiom of the day is:

IDIOM: Lost In Translation

MEANING: Creating confusion. Unclear. Having lost or lacking the subtlety of meaning or significance when translated.

ORIGIN: This phrase dates back to 2003 in the film with the same title. It is written and directed by Sofia Coppola, “Lost in Translation” tells the story of two characters, Bob Harris (played by actor Bill Murray) and Charlotte (played by actress Scarlett Johansson), who find themselves adrift and disconnected in the bustling city of Tokyo.

USING IT IN A SENTENCE: I tried to follow the steps in the computer's instruction manual ... however, I was lost knee-deep in the translation.

Hindi masamang maggamit ng sayings ng iba.

Hiniram lang natin ito para mabuksan ang mga isip at mata,

Ng mga taong ... malamang malala na ang sakit sa pera.

Kung gusto mong magbulag-bulagan at ayaw makinig sa mga paalala,

Desisyon ninyo yan ... at buhay ninyo kayo na ang bahala.
