Netizen: What are pathological liars? And how do I know one when I see one?

Response: Pathological liars is aka pseudo-logia fantastica or mythomania. Pathological liars often lie when there is no need to, his lies unwarranted and uncalled for ... and bereft of any plausible reason. Their lies are gratuitous ...lacking in apparent cause or justification.  They succumb to lies and the invitation to fib is overwhelming and irresistible. 

Making up stories becomes compulsive and made-up scenarios are large-scale and wide-ranging. The urge is relentless and uncontrollable it becomes a mortal sin if they can't lie in a day. Even if his habit of lying has already caused him a lot of misery and problems, there is no stopping this man ... even when he is on the precipice of getting caught.

Just to remind everybody, pathological liars are not included in the list of mental health diagnoses and DSM-5. But using the term pathological means there is underlying pathology or illness imbued why the person continues to lie. If a person lies 5 or ten times more in a day, he is included in this category

Netizen: I have read your latest post about lying and gaslighting.  Is there any difference between the two?

Response: Why do people lie? Telling a lie is a defense mechanism.  The person's motivation for this is to protect themselves and avoid trouble.  People utilized this unconscious mechanism to avoid punishments or humiliation and maintain their privacy. Sometimes they have to lie to protect themselves from being judged. The act is not something admirable and it is easy to understand why people are using it because it is readily available.

Gaslighting on the other is venomous and hostile, bordering on malicious. The gaslighter deliberately attempt to rewrite your REALITY (anything you personally experienced) and inject a different memory into you. It goes further than lying as its motivation is not only to deceive but contradict and oppose what the person has seen or heard.

With gaslighting, there is an intent to mask the TRUTH, and things you saw are now being challenged and impugned. If the person cited you and question your sanity, and your memory and accused you of being forgetful and a basket case all your life and that your eyes and ears should not be trusted ... and you don't have the updated version of knowing what is reality and what is a fallacy.

Simply put, all gaslighting has to lie as the basic component, but not all lying is gaslighting.

Calling A Spade a Spade

This is how the mind of a gas-lighter and pathological liar works.  They believe their lies ... even if that means he is alone.  He will hold on to his lies whether there is a CCTV or proof or evidence to debunk and invalidate his claims. No amount of corroborating evidence can change the mind of this person. His theme song is Me and Me Against The World. My friend suggested All By Myself.

PARENTS ... are the only people I know who are working with the labor of love. Sila bukod tangi ang may trabaho ... pero wala inaasahang bayad tuwing a kinse at katapusan. Kunbaga LIBRE lang ang pagkayod nila, at walang advancement or promotion in a hierarchical structure.

Wala rin itong sick leave or holiday's off ... and hear this ... walang overtime pero 24-7 ang responsibility (contradicting ba?)   Di ba kung halos hindi ka na natutulog ... hitik na hitik ka sa overtime ... FREE nga lang.

We don't encourage our children to have perfect life.  Because we know life isn't perfect ... and no one is. I allow my children to fail and make mistakes  ... BUT I want them to use these lapses as some kind of eye-opener that when confronted with the same situations in the near future... REPEATING the same mistake is not acceptable. It is not an option.

When you tripped and fall because you did not tie your shoelaces ... make it an opportunity to devise means and ways so falling will not happen again. After the fall, CHANGE is expected in the person as people banked on him that he needed to be careful. You need to grow and mature - otherwise kung paulit-ulit na lang ang mga nangyayari iyon ay dahil HINDI KA NAGTANDA ... just like what the song goes "DI KA TALAGA NATUTO".

Tama ... HINDI LANG SIYA natutong MAKINIG! DI BALE NANG PAULIT-ULIT ANG PROBLEMA.

Meeting Life's Problems Up Close and Personal

People find it hard to believe, that I allow my children to experience pain and make them taste the worst pangs of their life. This is part of the doctrine called "tough love". I let them sail and go through the angry sea... so they would learn to paddle the boat and not rock them.

I just thought you couldn't get a hang of life's problems ... without running into these problems up close and personal. It is a test of courage and determination. And the person's tenacity and will to survive.

Dealing with life's problem head-on is the actual LABORATORY of your life where you apply what you learned (THEORITICAL) and that include the nuggets of information your parents have to equip you ... so you will be ready.
