Was It Plagiarism?

Just like what I say below: Whatever Inday said bumabalik at nagboboomerang sa kanya.

I am apolitical ... and I don't side with anybody. But social media has been draining our patience as they bombard us with political issues ... to the point where we are almost puking ... ad nauseam.

The latest bomb to hit the VP is the allegation that her book Isang Kaibigan (which is now ready for distribution) was allegedly a plagiarized version of Owly authored by American Andy Runton as some social media practitioners have speculated.

One lawyer however said it is not plagiarism ... the book has just some copyright issues ... whatever that means. He'd better come out soon to explain his points.

What is plagiarism in the first place? Wikipedia defines it as the representation of another person's language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions as one's own original work. It is stealing the work or ideas from another source as your own with or without the consent and acknowledgment of the original writer.

The word “plagiarism” comes from the Latin word for “kidnapper” and is considered a form of theft, a breach of honesty in the academic community.

Inday was quick to respond and deny the allegation: "it is easy to write a short story based on personal experience. You don’t even need to copy." she reasoned out.

“Ang proyekto ay para mahikayat ang mga bata na mahalin ang pagbabasa at sumulat ng sarili nilang kwento,”

(The project aims to encourage the children to love reading and to write their own stories.)

“Hindi ang libro ang problema ng bayan kundi ang kahinaan sa pagbabasa ng ating kabataan.”

(The problem of the nation is not the book, but children lagging behind in reading.)

Gosh ... when are all these problems stopped for Inday. My advice for her is to zip her mouth.  And better still ... tone down the attitude.

I still believe in  Proverbs 11:2 “When pride comes, then comes disgrace ... but with humility comes wisdom.”

Matthew 23"12 added: "Those who exalt themselves will be humbled and those who humble themselves will be exalted."
