The Golden Gate Bridge

The Golden Gate Bridge was completed in 1937. It was the tallest and the longest suspension bridge in the world. It is about 9,000 feet long  nearly 2 miles. The original Golden Gate collapsed during an earthquake in 1906.

The Golden Gate is color red.  It was coated with the burnt red and orange shades of primer to protect from corrosive elements.

The Golden Gate Bridge, which finished at almost the same time has its own tunnel. The Funston Avenue Tunnel takes traffic approaching the bridge under the picturesque San Francisco Presidio.
