There has been a pattern that winning a Binibining Pilipinas Universe now MUP crown becomes a bane to the winner's blossoming love life. And fans would like to believe there is a crown curse ... and the breakup becomes a permanent fixture in the script of every winner's pageant journey. Then the fans start enumerating examples just to prove their point... and on top of the list were:
1. Miriam Quiambao - she broke up with Martin Bernardo after she won the first runner-up in Trinidad and Tobago in 1999. She later married Italian businessman Claudio Rondinelli but the two-year marriage also fall apart.
2. Janine Tugonon - it looked like her relationship with Jaypee Santos was too good to be true but it also end up in splitsville just months after winning.
3. Maxine Medina used to play lovey-dovey with actor model Marx Topacio for seven years and Maxine seemed she has moved on and had found her forever in Timmy Llana.
4. Catriona Gray unceremoniously announced her breakup with Clint Bondad after she won Miss Universe in Bangkok in 2018. Having been in a relationship with Clint for six years, one wonders why it failed and Clint was also in Bangkok to support her. Catriona is now happy in the arms of actor Sam Milby.
5. Rabiya Mateo was not also able to avoid the curse when after promising she will stick with Neil Salvacion through thick and thin, they joined the bandwagon of two people falling in and out of love.
6. Beatrice Luigi Gomez was almost sure she found "the one" in Kate Jagdon, only to eat up her words when she broke her silence lately talking about their separation.

Pilipinas Universe queens who had a similar fate with their marriages and relationships and according to my friends who made this research the list included Gloria Diaz, Margarita Moran, Anjanette Abayari, Joanne Quintas, and Jewel Lobaton. Or maybe there is still more.
With all this data and documentation one can't help but asked Celesti Cortese about the newly coined word - crown curse. She laughed at it but she is confident in her relationship with Matthew Custodio a Fil-Brit and a member of the national football team.
“When we read these comments, we really just laugh about it because we know that it’s not gonna happen.
“The fact that I am Miss Universe Philippines proves that the curse will never get in the way of our relationship.
“It will just make it stronger.
“So, I just wanna say to these people, there is a curse apparently, but it’s not gonna work on us,”
Closing this thread, one wonders what is really the story within the story of those break-ups. Was there really a third party ... or it was just a case of jealousy ... perhaps a resentment that their sweethearts won ... or was it because the partners were overwhelmed with the surge of activities, and photoshoots coming her way. Was time the culprit ... or was it the fanfare and the media blitz showing its ugly face making their boyfriends feel left out.
Which brings us to this question: Can two career-driven people have a successful relationship? Sure, many high-powered couples have successfully managed to balance their personal as well as their professional life. If your partner needs you, be there for him.
If you want your LOVE to succeed ... make your relationship your top priority. If there is a social function that she needs to attend to ... talk to him. Communication will usually do the TRICK!
