Sam Panlilio's Exclusion is Politically Motivated

There are only two options so I am more inclined to believe it was politically motivated.

I have already talked about Nawat numerous times and I have to admit it is nauseating so this time I want to talk more about the pageant's credibility and the perception of pageant fans about MGI.

CREDIBILITY. That's what Miss Grand International as an organization is lacking. Where can you find a pageant where the owner decides who makes it to semis and the finals, not the set of judges?  And these words came from (the irony of ironies) a former MGI winner Ariska Putri Pertiwi. So what's the purpose of getting judges when Nawat can do a one-man-band here - producer, owner, judge ... and EXECUTIONER! So which one is CREDIBLE?  Being chosen by Nawat or being selected by a set of judges?

If Nawat has an ax to grind to the Philippines, is it alright for him to be vengeful by not giving the innocent candidate who became the target of his wicked mind what is due to her?  If Nawat doesn't know Top 20 is a piece of cake, especially to powerhouse countries (Venezuela, Philippines, USA, Mexico, Colombia to name a few) The Pinoy fans is not asking for the crown, all they want is fairness in the game but if Nawat intentionally did not include her in the Top 20, something is really wrong with that picture.

And to think that he personally selected Sam Panlilio and he always hyped her to high heavens but in a twist of fate, he dropped her like a hot potato in the end.

It's a Grand Scam of Things.

A Review of Miss Grand International 2021

Guys, I want to show to you the review of Miss Grand International 2021 made by Luis Portelles. He has strong words for MGI, but one can see he was very diplomatic, conciliatory, and gracious with his choice of words. He didn't add fuel to an already raging fire, and his comments were insightful, any fans worth his salt should see this video review.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6V353lZFhyQ

HIGHLIGHT OF HIS REVIEW

1.  If the decision making within the organization was truly you know biased, it is just a shame for the candidates because when you think about all these girls, they have worked so much for so long, they have invested so much money, time, resources and they have sacrificed being separated from their loved ones and away from work in order to give everything to this competition and I feel like if that was not being honored by the organization if that is not appreciated, this is a problem that is just going to get worse and worse over time.

2.  This brings me to talk a little bit about the future of Miss Grand International .... I felt like the fans don't feel listened to, the fans felt they were used and abused for views, for votes, for revenues and that they were not being taken seriously.

3.  It doesn't matter how big of a pageant you make, how much money you invested in it, how much luxury and spectacle, and how much extravaganza you are bringing to the table, if you are not going to respect and treat everyone equally,,, then there is really no purpose.  You might attract a lot of viewers, you might attract a lot of attention but that does not translate into credibility.

4.  Yes they have amazing production, they invested a lot of money, it"s a fun pageant, but people don't take MGI seriously because of the poor decision making, the poor judging, and the poor placement of candidates who obviously are doing an amazing incredible job,  How do you expect us the fans to be excited about the upcoming edition ... when the candidates who have been running the entire competition from beginning to end is overshadowed by mediocre ones.

5. Visibility and numbers do not equal credibility

6. I feel like fans deserve better, I feel like the fans deserve more transparency when it comes to the decisions made by the organization.

7.  Last year when the situation happened with Samantha Bernardo, I was kind of in the middle of it. I thought Bb. Pilipinas should stop sending a candidate, but I felt it was a drastic move.  At this point, I felt like there was a pattern, it's a behavior that is happening here ...

8. At this time MGI is the second biggest crown that Binibining Pilipinas is giving. I feel like that mutual respect between the two organizations is not there. It is missing.  So until that disconnect is fixed ... I won't send my strongest candidate my most prepared candidate, my most passionate ones knowing that they will be underappreciated.

It is to Luis Portelles credit, that he made several disclaimers before he started his reaction review regarding MGI's finale.  He is well aware the biggest captive audience of his blog are Filipinos, so he made this clause, a waiver of sort lest people will misread the intent of his reaction video and distort his objective and attack him as pandering to Filipinos in exchange for added revenues.

And he made these pieces clear:

1. The purpose of this video is kind of open my bag, let it all out, and just you know share my thoughts for you guys.

2. I want to put a little disclaimer here and the purpose of this reaction video is to give you my overall perception of the entire pageant.  By no means I am not trying to send any hate to any candidates or trying to ignite the fire for the fans to start a fandom war.  This is barely my opinion expressing how I feel about everything that went down during the pageant.

3.  Let me know in the comment section if you agree with my point of view or even if you don't you can express yourself respectfully always and just have an adult conversation.

4.  I will try my best to be neutral and to be careful with my choice of words. ... I am not going into names because my purpose honestly is not to point finger at anyone.

5.  Some people will say I am biased because I have a Filipino audience because I am Cuban ... I don't want to come off like I am aggressive or impulsive or that I am assuming stuff but there are just so many things that don't add up.

Reader's Reaction

A reader reacts to my thread: How Karen Ibasco Turn a Basher into a Supporter. She said: "Just a question, not bashing.

Why did she answer the hashtag? Is she a candidate? Proving something? Why?"

It is nothing but a twist ...  she said it herself - a twist.

A  twist is a literary technique that introduces a radical change in the direction or expected outcome just like what Karen did in Miss Earth 2021. When it happens, it becomes a surprise appetizer, a curveball, or the bombshell of the show where nobody had seen it coming. And when the twist was done properly ...  people will talk about it, and the ploy succeeded.

Pageant twists are schemes made in the course of the program that is not customarily or routinely done in the olden contest. It subverts expectations. They don't follow the much-abused techniques of how the show should progress and this old formula is regarded by many as obsolete and a stale approach because they don't want to digress from the usual fare. They want to stick with the old formula because it worked once and they thought by doing the same it is guaranteed that people will like it.

Well, not all the time. They don't know that clinging to these senile ideas can be a monotony thus far insulting the intelligence of the viewing public because they don't want to grow and discover new visions leaving no room for improvement.

Going back to the twist, when properly carried out and executed, they genuinely surprise the audience and thereby increase the likeability of the show. In Karen's case ... it showed. There were rave reviews and positive feedback attest that being adventurous and bold in making changes in production can be a welcome treat.

But Miss Earth has revolutionized pageantry. Year in and year out, they always introduced something new. The most popular examples of their initiatives are the no make-up segment of the contest.  And in Q and A instead of asking antiquated questions which oftentimes are copied from other pageants (just like the complaints in Miss Globe when one forumer discovered that the questions were a rehash and pirated from somewhere) Miss Earth utilized the use of hashtags and the candidates expand the word or phrase. There is nothing like the ORIGINAL!

Is Karen a contestant? No, but she was the segment host. Is Karen trying to prove something? I don't think so. She was already the clear winner in 2017, and she has proven herself... it is just that her detractors won't give up bashing her and they didn't give her the benefit of the doubt.  She has proven her mettle in public speaking which is what the organization needs.

Yes, Miss Colombia is more beautiful, but she doesn't have the speaking ability like Karen. Karen is a complete package - her beauty is nothing to sneeze at ... and the most valuable attribute is ...  she can speak, she can teach and she can impart.

This reminds me of the comment made by a Colombian co-worker who said:  "They can always make Miss Colombia the winner, and maybe invite Karen when there is a need for her to speak on behalf of the organization.

"Are you nuts", I told her. " We will make her win, and make Karen take the microphone for her? What's the point?" And you want Karen, to be her able assistant, a Yaya, a caretaker in case the winner was indisposed or has butterflies in her tummy because she was scared to speak, let alone face the audience? So why don't we give it to somebody who can!

A Miss Earth winner is an awesome responsibility. Either you have it or you don't!"

Review: How karen Ibasco Turn a Basher Into a Supporter

Amidst the uproar brought about by Karen Ibasco winning the fourth Miss Earth title for the Philippines in 2017, Karen remained quiet on issues about hometown decisions and that she doesn't deserve the title memes that kept haunting her for years.  It is a known fact that even Filipinos joined the bash-Karen Ibasco bandwagon and there was no end in sight. It was indeed a harrowing and heart-wrenching reign for her.

Instead of fighting her haters online, she focused herself on her reign and the speaking engagements that went with it, mostly about environmental concerns. She was the ambassador to World Wide Fund (WWF) and the Youth Ambassador to Climate Change Commission, and on some occasions, I met friends (who were true blue Karen haters) who witnessed her in action, and now Karen is slowly turning the tables upside down with her detractors. She is indeed turning haters into supporters.

In the Q and A round of Miss Earth 2021, Karen showed the world she can be a perfect host too.  I like her tone of voice, her delivery, inflection, and modulation.  And she is glib, loquacious, and eloquent, she owned the segment, and no other beauty queens could match that.

And the bonus?  There was one remaining word in the glass bowl, and she volunteered to expand the word as if she was reliving her magical 2017 interview performance in Miss Earth. This was her exact words: "All right thank you very much, For the viewers, I am going to give a little twist because there is one more word that was left in this bowl, and I am going to answer it for you. The last word is INTELLECT.

If that was my hashtag during my Miss Earth I'm going to answer it this way. I believe that the winner of Miss Earth should always have intellect because in that way that substance part is going to help her speak her mind and this organization is all about knowing how to be a public figure who can represent the organization to speak for the environment because here as we live in this generation it's not just understanding to do it for yourself but representing the outspoken or rather the person who can not speak and that is Mother Earth and I am going to do it for her and a person who can speak her mind is the best person who can represent this earth."

And betchabygollywow, even my friend's jaw dropped as he whispered: She really deserved the title no matter what the trolls said."

By the way to see how Karen Ibasco fared in the Q and A segment here is the link to Miss Earth 2021 grand finals.

Anchilee Scott Kemmis in Hot Water

CONTROVERSY: Hardline pro-monarchy supporter and former politician Sonthiya Sawasdee filed complaints to the police on Tuesday, accusing Miss Universe Thailand 2021 of violating the laws by stepping on the Thai national flag in her promotional poster.

Miss Universe Thailand has been threatened with a lawsuit and potential jail time after a picture of her seemingly “standing on” the country’s national flag went viral. Anchilee Scott-Kemmis courted controversy after the Miss Universe Thailand Facebook page uploaded a picture of her against the backdrop of the Thai flag, and reportedly underfoot.

Standing on a national flag is a crime punishable by law in Thailand.

JAIL TIME AND A HEFTY FINE

Following the photo scandal, Anchilee Scott-Kemmis was slapped with a threat of a lawsuit from Sonthiya Sawasdee, a former political party advisor. He accused her of allegedly violating three sections of the 1979 Flag Act, which warns citizens against desecrating the sacred symbol. If convicted, the act is punishable by up to two years in jail and a fine of up to 40,000 baht (almost R20 000).

He told Bangkok Post: “Miss Universe Thailand has sizable followers on social media. This is considered an inappropriate publication.” However, Sonthiya also claims the beauty queen did “not act maliciously” and could evade punishment.

MISS UNIVERSE THAILAND RESPONDS

Miss Universe Thailand pageant organizers have responded to the controversy. Pageant director Piyaporn “Pui” Sankosik defended Anchilee Scott-Kemmis and the competition against the allegations. She said in a recorded interview: “That was the graphic made to convey the greatness of Thai people, not the real flag necessarily”.

The organization’s Facebook page has since removed the promo picture from its feed.

Can somebody explain the difference between a flag and a graphic in layman's terms so that we may catch the drift of the issue to some degree?

The reason why I was asking that is that there seems to be some confusion in the interpretation of the law. The concept of flag desecration continues to provoke a heated debate over protecting the flag as a national symbol, preserving free speech, and upholding the liberty said to be represented by that national symbol.

As my friend was saying, a  good law should possess the following qualities:
1. The law must be of interest to the Thai people.
2. The law must be applied equally to everybody whether you're rich or poor, famous or just an ordinary citizen
3. It should be reasonable and not be too harsh or rigid.
4, It is known to the public and is acceptable to the community.
5.  It is clearly worded and is fully understood.

It is in number 5 that makes the politician's complaint debatable.  It was not clear to those who organized the photoshoot, that using GRAPHICS that appear or look like the Thai FLAG is tantamount to desecrating or disrespecting the flag. At first glance, indeed the photos shown looked like a Thai flag.

If the law is vague and ambiguous (and did not contain provisions that include banners. streamers, emblems, ensigns, posters, and in this case graphics that bear resemblance to a Thai flag) then Anchilee maybe can have a sigh of relief.  But if there is ... they have a lot of explaining to do.

The Flag protection law should be clear In order to be understood by the people and if there were amendments and inclusion of the language that would permit the prohibition which may take forms other than burning, such as using the flag for clothing or a gown or even making it as table napkins then everybody is guided.

Seeing this issue as an outsider, the Anchilee's photoshoot team looks like they have no qualms about doing the shoot and they are oblivious that something is wrong or that they were doing something unlawful.  On the other hand are there any advisers that oversee all her activities? A brush with the law is something she should not ask for during her reign.
