Talent Is Not Enough

I saw a lot of young people OVERFLOWING with talents and ambition.

Little did they know that talent and ambition were not enough. Over time because of unhealthy habits, they start LEAKING ... wait till they squandered the opportunities that were given and prepared for them in a silver platter.

They are into vices - smoking, drugs, wine, and women. They think ... they are here only for a good time ... and that the good time is forever. They want to savor the good time till it is gone.

Somebody has to teach them responsibility, sensitivity, perseverance, and tenacity. They also need direction, honesty, and discipline.

Whatever little successes they made at the start of their career ... it was a forewarning ... a mini preview of bad and worst things cascading right before our very eyes.

Some Words Of Advice

I remember the words of Maria Consiglio.  She is a therapist specializing in relationships and personal growth and she gave us the red flags about the people we met and have the potential to have relationships with. SHE SAID:

1. Be careful about having relationships with people with no EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE. They will never understand you, they will personalize everything and you will never be seen or heard.

2. Be careful about having relations with people who can't REGULATE THEIR EMOTIONS. You will be at the mercy of their rages and bad moods.

3.  Be careful about having relationships with people with NO SELF-AWARENESS. They have no idea how their behavior affects the people around them.  So it is a matter of time before you get hurt.

4. Be careful about having relationships with people without EMPATHY.  They will never see or care about how you feel.

If no one has ever told you, I am telling you now. Look for people in your life with emotional intelligence, self-awareness, empathy, and the ability to regulate their emotions or you will be at the mercy of their dysfunction and pay the price for their immaturity and lack of growth.

Your advice was noted, Ma'am!

What The Feast of Santo Nino Teaches Us

The Santo Nino feast is celebrated in major cities throughout the country - Cebu, Iloilo, Aklan, Tondo, Kabankalan, and Cagayan de Oro ... it is almost celebrated nationwide with each city having its own version of the festivities.

As Jesus pointed out, it reminds us to look up the qualities of being a child as a model to be included in the Kingdom of God. Clearly, Jesus was referring to qualities the child possesses which everyone should emulate and live ... to be worthy of the Kingdom.

Qualities like innocence, humility, and honesty. An attitude that is CHILDLIKE ... not CHILDISH.

It is an aide-memoire for us Christians that Jesus wants us to remain like children, (ninos and ninas) before the eyes of God. As we grow older, God wants us to imbibe that our values and demeanor should remain like a child - unadulterated, pure, and ingenue.

The Difference Between Helping and Enabkling

A reminder to parents, brothers, sisters, friends and families. Helping is good ... but clear-cut demarcation lines are now written in the sand whether our help is really aiding our loved ones ... or are we making them worse?

The first thing we have to know is to differentiate helping from enabling.

Helping is doing something for someone else who cannot do it for themselves.

Enabling is doing things for someone who is ABLE and should be doing that things for his benefit. It is doing something for the person who is totally FIT and BUFF and is CAPABLE of doing things for themselves.

Enabling happens when you defend and rationalize why you help. You justify the obvious behavioral issues of your loved one under the pretense that you are only helping them.

One classic example of enabling is giving a loved one money who has a chronic problem of spending it on something else other than the intended purchase.

Another example is when you make excuses as to why a loved one resort to borrowing money instead of looking for a stable job. It will get worse if you invent stories justifying why he has to borrow money or stay at home instead of hunting for decent work.
