Spot The Difference 1

Spot the difference in some broadsheets is a type of puzzle (similar to a crossword puzzle) where readers are encouraged to find a specified number of minor differences between two almost identical pictures lying side by side and parallel to each other. The task is for the reader to find as many differences as possible.

This post serves as an instructional guide to readers to go to the next set of photos found below in the Miss Universe Instagram announcement of the TOP 5 as reported by Miss Universe El Salvador.

Spot The Difference 2

Reminders please follow instructions carefully. The post on the left is the original list of Top 5 finalists as reported by Miss Universe Organization El Salvador. The posts on the right are the changes made in the list ... in a matter of seconds. But enterprising and resourceful fans were able to screenshot the posts as souvenirs perhaps ... or was it for evidence/receipts. Now compare the two and spot the difference.

The changes became viral ... and even before the post-mortem review of the show ... paranoia and suspicions had already besmirched the otherwise successful show and ruined the coronation of Sheyniss Palacios - Miss Universe 2023  from Nicaragua.  The moral lesson of the story: Think and inspect ... before you click.

Now some fans want to hear a statement from the Miss Universe owner  Anne Jakkaphong Jakrajutatip and want some kind of investigation.

The nagging question is: was there a mistake just like the classic Steve Harvey's blunder in Pia Wurtzhbach's time? Or the question of Lu Sierra (supermodel, host, and pageant coach) resonates when she says: that the Philippines was robbed.

Idiom In Tagalog

One of my friends asked:  "Are there idiom equivalents also  in the Tagalog language?" Of course, there are.  Katulad ng idioms sa English, ginagamit ito para tumingkad ang paglalarawan ng mga bagaybagay at para mapaigting  at matalinhaga ang takbo ng usapin o pagsusulat.

And just like in English ... ang kahulugan ng mga "sawikain or idioms" ay magkaiba sa literal meaning ng mga salita. Sa madaling salita ang mga sawikain don't mean exactly what the individual words in it say. Tandaan natin ... ang figurative meaning ng mga sawikain ... is different from its literal meaning.

If somebody tells you makati ang dila mo ... immediately run for a cover.  It is not something you have to be proud of ... baka sinasabi niya ito out of anger dahil may sinabi ka tungkol sa kanya and one of his secrets. Ingat ka rin at baka ma-award ka or ma-dyombag. It has literal translation "itchy tongue".

It doesn't mean you have allergy dummy... pambihira namang allergy yon ... sa dila pa of all places? In the first place pwede bang makamot ang dila? Ang dami namang lugar ... bakit doon pa? But don't get fooled because ang figurative meaning ng idiom ay tsismosa ka ... makamandag ang dila mo.  Wala ngang buto ito ... pero kaya nitong makasira ng buhay at isang masayang pamilya.

Idioms Of The Day

Let's start using idioms or idiomatic expressions when we write. When idioms are used, it add color and texture to language by creating images that convey meanings beyond those of the individual words that make them up. An idiom can be very colorful and make a 'picture' in our minds. It also shows the writer's familiarity with English. When you want to make your writing sound more conversational, including idioms can give your writing a more relaxed tone.

Idioms allow us to say a lot with few words. Idioms amplify your messages in a way that draws your readers in and helps awaken their senses. It adds dynamism and character to otherwise stale writing. They make your writing less monotonous and your readers will think that you are smart and knowledgeable. All the while ... you only clothe your writing with elaborate idioms to create an impact... saying too much with less.

To perfect your English, you really need to become confident in using idioms and knowing the difference between breaking a leg and pulling someone's leg. So the idiom of the day is:

IDIOM: R and R

MEANING: An abbreviation or an expression meaning Rest and Recreation. It is not an idiomatic expression per se ... just an acronym or an expression.

ORIGIN: R & R refers to the time that you spend relaxing when you are not working. R & R is an abbreviation for rest and relaxation.  In the military, it also means rest and recuperation. or rest and recovery which is the time period specifically designated to allow recovery after a strenuous and relentless activity. It is done for pleasure rather than work.

USING IT IN A SENTENCE: He went to Boracay to unwind and have a little R and R.
