The Euphrates River is the longest river in southwest Asia, it is 1,740 miles (2,800 km) long, and it is one of the two main constituents of the Tigris-Euphrates river system. The river rises in Turkey and flows southeast across Syria and through Iraq. The Tigris–Euphrates confluence forms part of the Iraq–Kuwait border.
Most importantly, however, the Euphrates River allowed for the growth of some of humankind's earliest civilizations. The wealth of water supplied by the Euphrates and the corresponding fertile agricultural land surrounding it fostered the first agricultural settlements.
Being mentioned in history books as we fled Kuwait by way of Baghdad (during Iraq's invasion of Kuwait,) our group decided to pass by and see this river. And what stroll down history lane as everyone has their camera-ready for souvenir shots.
