This is a Double Entendre, meaning the statements have double meanings. It is a word or phrase open to two interpretations. One is usually risque or indecent.

The other meaning of pwede ba kitang sakyan is: Maniwala ba ako sa iyo? SAKYAN ko na lang ba ang mga sinasabi mo even if it doesn't sound too good to be true?

Is double entendre good or bad?

A "double entendre" is generally considered a good literary device when used appropriately, as it adds depth and complexity to writing by allowing for multiple interpretations of a word or phrase, often with a playful or humorous effect; however, if used poorly, it can be seen as confusing or even offensive depending on the context and the intended meaning. 

Lawyers Mumbo Jumbo: Double Jeopardy

 We are not lawyers ... but we need to understand their lexicon (lawyers always have their own lingo only they can understand. Same with doctors, nurses, and engineers) 

We spend our waking hours on YouTube, and we are always exposed to hearings and debates, as well as their private conversations. All we do is scratch our heads because they use legal terminologies that sound too foreign and alien to our virgin ears, and our mind wonders what they are talking about.

Let's start decoding and decrypting these words and phrases (it is irreverent for us to enter the sanctum of the in ... but desperate times need desperate measures) so the next time they use these terms again ... we are on the same page with them.  Not in limbo.

We will try to dissect and define them in simpler language so ordinary mortals and laymen (the amateur and the non-experts) can actively participate in the discussion ... and at the same time broaden their legal and paralegal stock knowledge,

So our word or phrase that is hitting the headlines today is: Double Jeopardy.

PHRASE: Double Jeopardy

MEANING: Double jeopardy means nobody can be accused and nobody can be charged with the same offense repeatedly.  This tenet protects people from being prosecuted for the same crime twice.

The double jeopardy clause bars second prosecutions after either acquittal or conviction, and prohibits multiple punishments for the same offense.

EXAMPLE: The Court of Appeals remanded the decision acquitting Leila de Lima in one of the three dismissed drug cases. 

According to CA, the Muntinlupa court committed grave abuse of discretion as it failed to explain the specific facts as well as the laws on which de Lima's acquittal was based. They feel that the acquittal was based solely on the recantation of witness Rafael Ragos,

CA cited the Muntinlupa Trial Courts' failure to adequately justify their ruling as one reason people are considering reopening the case or trying to prosecute her again. 

Leila de Lima's supporters came to her rescue, citing double jeopardy - that the former senator ... now a congresswoman, could not be charged again - she has already served her punishment in jail for more than six years, even though she was innocent.

And they could not charge the defendant over and over again, until she was found guilty.

Another well-known case of double jeopardy ever recorded is the infamous O.J. Simpson murder trial. In 1995, football legend O.J. Simpson was ACQUITTED of the brutal murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman.

Reopening the case was mission impossible ... thanks to the double jeopardy clause that protects the accused from turning himself again under the microscope of public scrutiny.

Observe ... but don't absorb. What a timely phrase.

"Observe but don't absorb" is a mental technique that encourages awareness of what is happening around them, and at the same time prevents the person from getting drawn or controlled by what they see.

It's about being present and noticing what is happening (the sidelights and the lowlights included) without getting caught up in the intensity of feelings or the heart-wrenching drama that goes with it. He should not be emotionally entangled. It's a practice of emotional detachment that allows the person to maintain control and perspective.

Observing without absorbing means knowing every detail of the events that are playing live in real time, and you don't let it affect your equilibrium or emotional well-being.

If the person is weak, observation will take the person to the next step - absorption.

Absorption means that the eyes see, and although the mind may register the event details, the impressions of the event are actually ingested and swallowed into the depths of the mind, on both conscious and subconscious levels.

Just like the image above ... if you are a true blue Catholic... even if you are amid a bevy of Buddhist monks ... you can pretend and act like them, pray with them ... but being a devout Catholic, you manage to be emotionally detached - completely unattached, free and disconnected.

In the last election, the VP's senators, Go, Bato, and Marcoleta) miraculously squeezed in the highly contested Magic 12, and you know what that means - a Battle Royale is looming at the impeachment trial of the beleaguered Inday Sara.

This will be the test of wills ... the Battle between Good and Evil. It is a mammoth tug of war of forces on who among the senators will ACQUIT (because they are friends with Inday) .... and who will CONVICT.

"Observe but don't absorb" means even if you are in the middle of a political minefield, if your sanity is your priority, ignore all the pressures. And getting emotionally detached is the best option..

We often absorb what we observe. But here's the thing—learning to observe without absorbing is a skill that can transform your life. It's about being present, understanding what's happening, but not letting it swallow and drown you, and take over your emotional space.

Senate Results: What did we learn?

Ang Platapormang Hindi Nabuksan

Si Lito Lapid ... ang Supremo ng Senado nagmuntik-muntikan ring mahulog at number 11. Dapat magpasalamat siya kay Coco Martin at sa Batang Quiapo.

Does that mean na unti-unti nang umeepekto ang voter's education campaign natin?  I will not take credit for that of course. Pasalamat tayo dahil kung wala ang mga Milleneals at Gen Z age brackets ... kung wala sila malamang bumalik na naman tayo sa dating gawi.

Although nanghihinayang din ang marami sa pagkatalo ng Wowowin host.. Nagtataka sila na nanghuhula kung anong tulong yong ibibigay sa atin. After the much ballyhooed interview ni Gretchen Ho why Revillame refused to answer why he  tried his luck in politics ... a part of us ay naiintriga. 

Sasabihin ba naman na: "Iboto ninyo muna ako ... at pag nanalo ako doon natin pagusapan kung ano ang gagawin kong pagtulong sa inyo?" Bagong gimmick yon ha

Actually binago ni Kuya Will ang kalakaran sa politics.  Siya lang ang tanging kandidato na nagfile ng candidacy na walang kaplano-plano. Parang variety show lang ang treatment ... parang Wowowillie.Doon pa lang nakuha na niya ang attention ko.

Ang requirements niya kailangan manalo siya ... at doon pa lang siya magsitdown sa mga constituents niya at yong mga problemang inilatag sa kanya ang kanyang advocacy ... at bigyan priority.

Hindi man lang ba kayo naintriga or nagtataka kung ano ang laman ng help package na yon? Baka ginto yon ... pera na ,,, naging bato pa. Or baka bibigyan ng jacket ang buong kapuloan?

Didn't that arouse your curiosity at hindi man lang ma-decode ang password mabuksan man lang nag mga nakatagong mga pangako? Are you not wondering kung ano nga ba ang mahiwagang plataporma ni Kuya Will sakaling nanalo siya?

Too bad ... ngayong natalo na siya ... mananatiling "lihim" .... top secret ... at classified ... at pwedeng  ibaon na lang sa limot ang platapormang yon? I doubt kung maisipan pa niyang magfile ng candidacy ulit sa Senado in the year 2028.

Knowing Kuya Will mataas ang pride niyan, and his first political journey ... will be his last.
