Netizen's Reaction: There is a widespread idea that seniors are technologically illiterate and they dislike devices. What do you think are the reasons why senior struggles with technology.
Response.
Technology isn't just something seniors should accept.
Embracing technology can help seniors improve their physical and mental well-being. Social media can help them prevent loneliness, and using the internet can help them speed up paying their bills or shop without leaving the house. And it can speed up connectivity seniors want from children that were out of town.
But why do seniors struggle with technology? For obvious reasons.
1. Technology gap - Life now is digital. The gap is huge and seniors can't catch up.
2. Lack of perceived benefit - Seniors believed they will not get anything from doing so and keeping up with times.
3. Fear of the unknown - Seniors are a stranger to gadgets. Their lack of knowledge terrifies them.
4. They don't feel safe online. They are afraid of viruses attacking their phones, scams, hacking, or phishing, the reason why they hesitate when passwords are required.
5. Seniors hate learning by doing. But that's how we learn computers - seniors have to play them around.
6. Memory lapses. Seniors are usually frustrated when they forget their usernames and passwords.
7. Vision loss resulting from aging - glaucoma, cataract macular degeneration to name a few.
8. Lack of time. Learning is a slow process, and seniors hate using too much of their time, especially on gadgets they don't even enjoy.
9. The price tag. Gadgets are not always cheap. And seniors would rather have their money spent on food and medicine
10. These new gadgets are not seniors-friendly. The target market is the age bracket 25-40. And they expect seniors will adjust.
10. The complexity of the devices makes them difficult to use. The many features available on devices mean that seniors cannot understand the precise operation of the device.
