The story encourages us to LET GO. Meaning ... that in life we have to travel LIGHT. If we are planning to MOVE ON ... having a truckload of emotional baggage is too HEAVY to start one's journey. If we keep on CARRYING feelings of hurt, pain, regrets, frustrations, hate, and fear ... the WEIGHT will drag us down to the point where we feel we are drowning or suffocating.
