It is a debt that you thought was already forgotten and forgiven but for some reason, somebody is trying to collect.
Perhaps an old family member has just come out from his grave ... and he was resurrected mainly to collect what is past due.

What is an epitaph? It is a phrase or form of words written in memory of a person who has died, especially as an inscription on a tombstone.
And for somebody whose DEATH is suspect and somewhat related to DEBT ... the above epitaph is apt and fitting.
