Commentaries

It seems to me that the president was not direct and straightforward with his answer to the people's questions.  Was it an admittance that he was indeed out of the country at the time?

What is wrong with admitting that you were on an official mission somewhere before the storm came and heaven knows what havoc the storm will bring to the country? Offering a joke to counter the wild accusations ... and supporters spinning the situation that he was in Ilocos is an insult to the intelligence of Filipinos. Marcos instead of saying Welcome to Hokkaido should have been truthful about where he was at the time.  Not saying anything ... may be misconstrued as an admission of guilt.

"Welcome to Hokkaido".  Was that a joke?  If that was a joke to downplay the never-ending question of the whereabouts of the President at the height of the storm ... it even adds more questions, than answering it.

What the entire country has gone through in the hands of Paeng is not a joke.  And as the President goes back to the microphone to utter the infamous line with a big smile to belittle and pooh-pooh the flaming embers of the national inquiry: "Where was the President," did not help at all. He even made it worse by adding more gas to the controversy.
